Hi everyone!! Here is the preview of the prologue from The Way We Were. The book will be released next Friday, September 26th, but is now available for pre-order on Amazon!!

August, 2012

“I can’t believe you dragged me out tonight.”

“Why not? This is the last night before our classes start, so of course I’m going to have some fun.”

I glared at my friend, Cassandra Morris, and sighed. Figured she would, considering she never cared about school anyway. She was just attending college to get away from her parents.

I sighed; I had been away from my family for a week now, and I was already homesick. If I was feeling like this now, I probably wouldn’t even survive the semester. When I applied to Shaw, I only did so because it was an hour away from home, just in case I wanted to leave and go to a school in Houston. But I made up my mind to actually enjoy the time I had here, so I planned to; I hoped.

Cassandra looked at me. “Stop being a Debbie Downer. You’re going to have fun tonight. You might even meet a fine man to talk to.”

“I doubt it.” I sighed.

Since I’d known her, I realized that men were Cassandra’s weakness. She never cared about anything else. I hope I don’t fall into that trap. I’ve been boyfriend-free for the past three months, mainly because of what happened with the guy I’d been seeing, Jason Hardaway. I still can’t believe he had been cheating on me with my friend’s cousin. He’d been seeing the both of us for months. And to think, I wanted to be friends with her. Well, that ship has sailed.
“I have been thinking, though. I’m giving myself this semester to stay in school; if I don’t like it, I’ll leave to travel the world.”

I shook my head at Cassandra. “Are you serious?”

“Yeah, why not. We only live once, so we might as well enjoy the time we have. You know I’m not the school type. I barely passed high school, so why would I want to continue with college?”
“Do your parents know?”

“No, but they’ll know once they receive the credit card statement for the tickets I purchase.”
I rolled my eyes. This girl is hopeless.

She pulled into a parking spot at the club, and we got out of the car. I looked around; getting a little excited at the idea I was at a club near the college town. Maybe Cassandra was right; I might actually meet someone tonight.

After the bouncer checked our IDs, we were inside. The place was packed as I tried to get through a couple who were slow grinding on each other. I turned up my nose. With the way they were moving, they might as well just take their clothes off and have sex on the dance floor.

Cassandra smiled. “Now, I don’t know why you’re making that face. You’re not that innocent, Monica.”

“I think there are some things that should be left in the bedroom.”

“If you insist.”

I looked over near the bar and saw a couple of guys talking. I continued staring at one, and he was now looking directly at me. Cassandra looked over at him and smiled.

“Hmm, he’s fine. Go talk to him.”

“I don’t think so.”

“Please, girl. Go have some fun, because I’m definitely about to,” she said, while looking at one of his friends. She went over to the bar, leaving me alone. I sighed, went over to a table and sat down. I moved my head to the beat, wishing I was out on the floor, dancing with someone.

“Looks like you’re enjoying this song.”

I looked up and saw the same guy I’d been gawking at earlier. My heart started to beat faster at the sight of him. Damn, he’s gorgeous! His hazel eyes stared directly into mine, while his chocolate brown skin glowed under the club lights. I was already imagining his strong arms around me, his lips touching my skin, and his medium-built frame moving against my body, which already had me soaking wet.

“Yeah. This is one of my favorite songs.”

“Cool. I see your friend is already talking to one of my friends.”

“Yeah; Cassandra doesn’t waste anytime with anything. If she sees something she wants, she goes for it.”

“Are you saying you’re not like that?”

“I am with certain things.”

“What if I say I’m the same way?”

I glanced at him and smiled. “Are you saying you’re doing that now?”

“Most definitely. I’m Donnell,” he said, extending his hand to me.

“Monica,” I replied, accepting his handshake.

“I have to say, you are beautiful.”

“Thank you.”

“You want to dance?”

I nodded as I put my hand in his and went out onto the floor. Hopefully, I’ll be able to talk to him more after our dance; like Cassandra said, I have to live in the moment, and that’s exactly what I was doing.

After we were on the dance floor for almost an hour, it was time for me to take a break. We went over to the bar and sat down. While he ordered a beer, I declined, figuring I didn’t need any type of drink from a man. If I wanted to do anything, it would be on my judgment and not anyone else’s.
“Are you enjoying yourself?”

“Definitely. Thanks for hanging out with me, especially since my friend ditched me.”

“No problem; I enjoyed spending time with you.”

I smiled when he touched my shoulder. A tingle rushed through me as he glanced into my eyes.

“You want to get out of here? Maybe we could find somewhere to talk.”

I sighed. I knew where this was heading.

“I don’t think so.”

“Why not? If you think I only want to sleep with you, then you’re wrong; even though that thought has crossed my mind several times.”

“I’m sure. Listen, Donnell, I think you’re a great guy, but I barely know you, so I won’t be going anywhere with you. In fact, I need to find Cassandra.”

He nodded, while I pulled out my phone. I noticed there was a text from her. I guess I didn’t get it since I was dancing. I sighed and put my phone back into my clutch.

“What’s wrong?”

“Evidently, Cassandra wanted to bone your friend, so she left with him. She was my ride to the dorm.”

Donnell drank the rest of his beer. “So how do you feel about going somewhere?”

I sighed. “Sure.”

He smiled, tipped the bartender, and took my hand.

“Let’s enjoy the rest of our evening.”

I smiled as we left the club, not knowing what to expect with the rest of the evening with Donnell Patterson…

Five Things You Should Know About The Way We Were

20140830-104413-38653762.jpg

Hi everyone!! As always, for every book, I provide five spoilers to prepare for the story. With The Way We Were, there are five shocking spoilers to think about before the release on September 26th!

1. Monica and Donnell are involved with different people: In Unconditional Love, it was revealed that Monica was dating Jayden’s friend Zack, while Donnell was dating Dominique. They’re pretty happy to a certain extent, until the four are out together on a group date, which leads to the second spoiler…

2. Zack and Dominique share a past: Yes, the two share a past which was never resolved. The two are in the same situation as Monica and Donnell.

3. Cassandra: Cassandra is Monica’s childhood friend who her friends believe is a bad influence on Monica. She returns to Shaw and has some surprising news for both her best friend and Cheryl.

4. Monica and Marcus: Monica still never resolved the issues she had between Marcus and Cheryl. When an unexpected event occur in her life, she began to think about what made her result to that day at Reese’s and finally realized her actions.

5. Monica and Donnell receive unexpected news: The two receive some unexpected news, which will turn their lives upside down. This will also lead into a preview of Riana and Shawn’s story in Love Always.

The Way We Were will be available on all major sites September 26th. You can pre-order now on Amazon:

LLH: Book 3 Chapter 26

Hi everyone!! Sorry for the delay with posting chapters 26 & 27, but I’ve been busy working on both The Way We Were (which is finished and with my editor now) and started working on Love Always (which will be a great conclusion to the series and for Riana and Shawn fans!).

Chapter 26 is posted and chapter 27 will be up tomorrow. Enjoy :-)

Jackie glanced at Dean Bradford while Britney cleared her throat. He was already suspicious of the two, so they have to figure out something to throw him off.

Before she could say anything, Monica jumped in.

“Dean Bradford, Mr. Parker was gracious enough to take time out of his schedule to go over the project for our Introduction to Education class.”

Dean Bradford raised an eyebrow at Monica and then looked at Jackie and Britney. “Oh really.”

“Yes; we all scheduled an appointment with him, but unfortunately, there was a time conflict, so he suggested we all go to lunch and discussed the project. Right, Chris.”

Chris glanced at Monica before saying anything. “Yeah.”

Dean Bradford didn’t look convinced as he stared at Jackie. “Is that true, Mr. Parker?”

“Yes, sir, it is. “

Britney’s and Monica’s phones began to go off at the same time. The two looked at each other before picking up them up. They looked at them and gasped.

“We have to go.” Monica said. She gently shoved Chris out of the way so they could exit the booth.

“Is everything okay?” Dean Bradford asked with a concerned look.

“I’m afraid not. One of our friends was shot inside the GZG house.”

“Oh no. I really hope they’re okay.” He said.

“We hope so too.” Britney said while almost in tears.

“Do you all need a ride to the hospital?” Jackie asked.

Britney quickly glanced at Dean Bradford, who was carefully studying them. She shook her head.

“No, Chris will take us to the hospital.”

Jackie nodded. “Okay. I really hope your friend is okay.”

Britney nodded and followed Monica and Chris to the door.

She looked at Monica and gave her a hug. “Thank you.”

Monica nodded and the two got into Chris’ car. Britney’s phone began to ring as she noticed it was a text. She opened the messenger and saw it was from Jackie, letting her know he will be at the hospital and he loved her. She replied back, saying thank you and loved him too.

She sighed, wishing she was leaving with him, but she knew they couldn’t, especially with the dean on to them. Although Monica saved them from this situation, she knew it was only a matter of time before they would really be exposed. When they do, no one would be able to save them.

***
Riana, Marcus, and Cheryl were in the waiting room at Penbrook Memorial, not knowing what to do or say to each other. Before arriving, Dominique was taken into custody by campus police until she is transferred by Houston Police. Although they wanted to know what she would be charged with, the only thing mattered was knowing if Shawn will be okay.

Cheryl gripped Marcus’ and Riana’s hands as she closed her eyes. She couldn’t get the image of Dominique and Marcus struggling with the gun and Shawn going in front of Riana to protect her. The entire scene was something she would had seen in the movies, not something she would had experienced in real life.

She glanced at Riana who was still in tears. She tried to get her to see a doctor to check on her and the baby, but she didn’t want to in case anyone delivered news regarding Shawn. She held her hand even tighter and sighed.

“Shawn is strong, so he will pull through this.”

She looked at Cheryl and nodded. “I want to believe that, but he lost so much blood.”

“Ri, Shawn will make it. He’s not going to leave you or his child.”

She gently rubbed her stomach and sighed. “I know.”

Cheryl looked at Marcus, who was in a daze. He’s been that way since they arrived. She put her head on his shoulder and he gave a deep sigh.

“Did you want anything? I could go to the vending machine or the cafeteria.”

He shook his head. “I just got my brother back. I can’t lose him again.”

Cheryl was on the verge of tears. She really hope Shawn pulled through this for both Riana and Marcus’ sake. They have all been through so much, so they deserved to be happy.

She looked up and saw Britney, Monica, and Chris walk into the waiting room. She stared at Monica and Chris, knowing it wasn’t the time to be upset with the two.

“Any news on Shawn?” Britney asked as she went over to Riana for a hug.

“Not yet.” Marcus said.

“How did this happen? What was he doing at the GZG house?” Chris asked.

“He was there because of us. We were confronting Dominique when she went postal and had us at gunpoint. Shawn and Marcus snuck into the house. Shawn was trying to calm her down, but she shot him when Marcus tried to restrain her.” Cheryl explained.

“Oh God! I really hope she’s locked away somewhere.” Monica said.

“All we know is that she’s in custody right now.” Cheryl said.

“Ri, is there anything we can do?” Britney asked.

Riana continued to look ahead, wondering when the doctor would come out and talk to them. They have been waiting for awhile now, so someone should know something.

Marcus looked up and saw his parents walk in. He went over to them and gave them a hug.

While explaining what happened, Mrs. Walker covered her mouth with her hand while Mr. Walker was close to tears.

“Is there something you can do about this, Marcus? Do something so she could be charged and locked away!” Mrs. Walker exclaimed.

“There’s not much I can do. We just have to wait on word from the department on whether she would be booked and arraigned.”

Mrs. Walker looked over at Riana, who was wiping tears from her eyes. She glanced at Mrs. Walker and suddenly became nervous. Deep down, she had a feeling she would blame her for this, which honestly, she was right. If she didn’t cheat on Shawn with Marcus, they would had been together and he wouldn’t had ever been with Dominique. But even if the two were together, she would had found some way to get into his life; case in point, with the internship position.

She walked over to Riana and stared at her. Everyone looked at each other, not knowing what to do if the situation turned ugly. Mrs. Walker wrapped her arms around her, giving her a long hug. She pulled away and gave a tiny smile.

“I know about everything, Riana. Shawn called me earlier and told me.”

Riana began to cry even more at what Mrs. Walker just said. She didn’t even know Shawn called his parents, which made this situation even more difficult.

“I know we had our differences, but just know that Shawn will be there for you and for your son or daughter. I know my son; I know he will be a wonderful husband and father.”

Riana began to shake, which led Mrs. Walker to hug her again. Marcus looked at the sliding doors as a doctor was walking towards them. Everyone looked at the man approaching them, wondering what type of news he was going to deliver to them.

“Walker family?”

“Yes. How is Shawn? Is he okay?” Mr. Walker asked.

The doctor gave a look that no one was able to understand. Riana glanced at him, praying that Shawn is okay.

Please let him be okay….

The Way We Were Teasers!!!

Happy Sunday everyone!!! I had a lazy day today and decided to create a few teasers for The Way We Were.

I will begin writing Love Always soon (yay!!) I love Riana and Shawn, so I have a lot of good things coming their way. I should also mention the book will be set two years after The Way We Were. This was the book chosen by YOU during my poll last year, so I will do my best to make it an excellent book (but it’s Riana and Shawn, so of course it will be)!

Also, I haven’t forgotten about the last two chapters from book three of LLH. I will be posting those shortly :-)
